Greenhouse warming refers to the process by which certain gases in Earth's atmosphere trap heat from the sun, leading to a rise in global temperatures. These gases, known as greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide), absorb and re-emit infrared radiation, preventing it from escaping into space. This trapped heat warms the planet's surface, leading to a phenomenon commonly referred to as global warming or climate change.
